CBD Drops & Tinctures FAQ

What is CBD oil?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a compound found in the cannabis plant that is non-psychoactive, it won’t get you “stoned”. CBD is just one of 100+ cannabinoids located in the cannabis plant, which can be an umbrella term for the hemp and marijuana plants.

Cannabidiol oil can be extracted from both marijuana and hemp plants. When CBD tincture is derived from the hemp plant, there may be 0.0% - 0.3% THC present. When derived from the marijuana plant, it may have 0.3% THC or greater present.

Does CBD oil get you high?

CBD oil does not get you high, if it is hemp-derived cannabidiol, containing less than 0.3% THC.

We each have an endocannabinoid system (ECS) within our bodies, working alongside our organ systems to help maintain a homeostatic balance. Our ECS contains numerous cannabinoid receptors that receive and communicate information with cannabinoids and other cells within our system. The main cannabinoid receptors involved are cannabinoid receptor 1 (CB1) and cannabinoid receptor 2 (CB2).

CBD binds indirectly with the CB1 and CB2 receptors, because of this, this may be one of the reasons we don’t feel “the high” when we take or use cannabidiol. On the other hand, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) binds directly with the CB1 and CB2 receptors, hence, being one of the possible reasons users may feel “euphoric” or “high”. Therefore, how you feel will also depend on the product's content, whether it is CBD isolate, broad-spectrum, or full-spectrum hemp extract.

What does being on CBD oil feel like?

Taking CBD drops and CBD oil tinctures may feel like a calm sense of relaxation. Since CBD is not mind-altering or psychoactive, you won’t feel “intoxicating effects”.

CBD does not attach directly to the CB1 and CB2 receptors, like I briefly mentioned above. More so, our ECS works indirectly to relax your body, providing you feelings of calmness over time.

How do you use CBD tinctures?

CBD Oil Drops are designed to be used and applied under the tongue, or sublingually. Taking CBD drops orally allows the body to absorb it via the blood vessels underneath the tongue. It also means that the cannabinoids will pass the digestive system, hence, more cannabinoids may make it into the bloodstream. We recommend using a full dropper (1.0 mL) of cannabidiol, applying it under the tongue, and waiting 30 - 60 seconds before swallowing.

With an under the tongue CBD drops method, the body does not need to digest or metabolize the cannabidiol to have you reap the benefits hours later. Instead, direct sublingual absorption will have you potentially feeling the benefits faster.

Can You Rub CBD Oils on Skin?

You can definitely rub CBD oil drops on your skin. Similar to how individuals use serums and hydrating oils as part of their skin care routine, CBD oil can be applied to various parts of your body as well.

CBD oil has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, which may make for a great oil rub before bed, post workout, or potentially for areas of pain or injuries you’re curious to try.

Are CBD Drops Legal?

CBD drops are federally legal. CBD oil drops are legal on the federal level if the CBD does not contain more than 0.3% THC. Depending on which state you are in, buying CBD may only be legal with a medical marijuana card and prescription, such as Virginia. However, states such as Colorado and California, that allow for recreational and medical marijuana use, CBD is legal, from hemp-derived and marijuana-derived cannabis.

The Farm Bill that passed in December 2018 declared it federally legal to produce, purchase, and use cannabidiol under certain requirements and regulations, if again, hemp-derived.

Do note: the FDA has not yet legalized cannabis, but they have allowed researchers to conduct further CBD studies and trials.

Can I Fly With CBD Oil?

Yes, you can fly with CBD if there is less than 0.3% THC present! The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) recently updated their guidelines regarding medical marijuana and flying, making it clear that medications that are hemp-derived CBD are, for the most part, legal to fly with.

If travels have forms of CBD that follow the regulations and guidelines of the farm bill (mentioned above), then it is permitted on a plane.

So, for the most part, you’re clear for flight! Our Nanocraft CBD Products are 100% hemp extract and contain 0.00 - 0.03% THC, including:

Is CBD Oil Safe?

CBD oil has been considered safe by many experts, scientists, and organizations. While CBD is a component of cannabis, it does not “get you high”.

The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that CBD does not show effects of any abuse or dependence potential in humans. Also, an article published in JAMA (2020) considered CBD to be well-tolerated, generally safe, and non-toxic.

How can I distinguish high quality CBD oil?

  • Ask for certificates of analysis
  • Ask if their hemp is organically grown and farmed
  • Ask if the company does third party testing

These are great questions to ask if the CBD oil products you’re interested in are safe. Reputable CBD companies should be able to provide you certificates of analysis, easily.

Will CBD Oil Show Up on a Drug Test?

Yes and no. It is still inconclusive if CBD will show up on a drug test. It really depends on 1) what the drug test is specifically testing for, in regards to substances. Most drug screening tests are testing for levels of THC, not necessarily CBD. However, if the screening is covering a wide array of substances, for instance, CBD levels may appear on your test.

Furthermore, 2) your CBD product(s) may contain THC, even in trace amounts. This is something to be extremely careful for if you are regularly getting drug tested for employment or other reasons. As CBD may not show up with high enough levels to be flagged by your drug test, the THC in your product might.

How Much CBD Oil Should I Take?

The amount of CBD you should take will vary depending your size, age, and sex. In most cases, it’s best to begin with a small amount of CBD to gauge your reaction. Then, increase or decrease how much you consume, accordingly.

Each of our CBD tinctures contain measurement indicators on the dropper, up to 1.0 mL CBD per serving (full drop). We recommend taking just one full drop a day and deciding how it impacts you. Having said that, if you have a serious medical condition or use prescription medications, consult with your physician before consuming CBD.

How Long Does CBD Stay In Your System?

CBD can stay in your system for anywhere from 2 - 7 days, depending on 4 main factors.

How often you use CBD oil will influence the amount of time it can remain in your system. For example, if you infrequently take CBD Oils or CBD Capsules, then it may not stay in your system for as long compared to if you took CBD products everyday.

The dosage of CBD you take at a given time may also influence how long the cannabinoids stay in your system. If you’re taking large doses at one time, the CBD may take longer to metabolize in your system, thus, it may take longer to leave your system.

Your metabolism is a key player in regards to how fast CBD can exit your system. Also, if you take your CBD with food compared to on an empty stomach, the metabolic effect may be slightly altered.

Different methods of CBD will have different effects on your body. For instance, if you smoke or vape CBD, this can take effect almost instantly. On the other hand, if you are ingesting CBD it may have a more delayed effect, since it needs to be metabolized.

Is Hemp Oil the Same as CBD Oil?

Hemp oil is not the same as CBD oil. Cannabidiol production typically uses leaves, flowers, and stalks derived from the hemp plants. For CBD oils to be associated with hemp oil, the CBD needs to be diluted in a carrier hemp seed oil. If  the CBD contains less than 0.3% THC, has been derived from the hemp plant, and has been diluted in hemp seed oil, then it can be considered “hemp CBD oil”.

However, most CBD oils use different oils as a base or carrier oil to dilute the cannabinoids in, which also add a natural flavor to these products. For instance, sunflower seed oil, leaf oil, coconut oil, and ginger root oil. Also, if the CBD has been derived from the marijuana plant, with marijuana seed oil as the dilution solution, this could be considered a marijuana-derived CBD oil. This can shape a CBD tincture oil into being purely a CBD oil, not a hemp oil.

Do CBD Tinctures have THC in it?

CBD tinctures may have THC present. If the CBD tincture oil has been derived from a hemp plant, it may contain 0.00 - 0.03% THC. If the CBD tincture oil has been derived from a marijuana plant, it may contain 0.03% THC or greater.

The key words to look for when searching for a CBD product without THC present: broad-spectrum CBD. Broad-spectrum CBD  goes through additional processes to ensure that the oil is THC free, “washed” and “polished”, to create the highest quality CBD. With the broad-spectrum products, you get the benefits from all the cannabinoids present in the plant, except THC.

Full-spectrum CBD contains all the unique terpenes, flavonoids, fatty acids, and natural cannabinoids that the cannabis plant has to offer, this includes some amounts of THC. If users are wanting a “fuller” effect, without worry about THC amount, full-spectrum would be a great CBD option.

Do CBD Drops Help With Anxiety?

CBD drops may help with anxiety. Cannabidiol research has continued to investigate and display therapeutic benefits for reduced anxiety. CBD oil tincture for anxiety may help support a sense of calmness and wellness in users.

CBD may cause various anti-anxiety effects, with a range of CBD doses. Cannabinoids may be an important potential source for new medications in the treatment of anxiety disorders.

Will CBD Oil Make Me Sleepy?

Cannabidiol has been thought to have hypnotic effects and has been suggested to be a natural sleep remedy.

However, there isn’t enough clinical evidence to support CBD as a sleep aid (yet). Clinical trials have suggested that CBD may be of therapeutic benefit in regards to circadian rhythm, sleep duration, as well as sleep quality.

On the other hand, melatonin does play an important role in sleep regulation and has been suggested to help with circadian rhythm timing.

Does Insurance Cover CBD Oil?

There are no health insurance companies that currently cover CBD oils and tinctures in the United States. The biggest challenge is that CBD oil is not yet FDA approved. Doctors can only legally prescribe a drug to their patients once it has been approved by the FDA.

Does CBD Oil Go Bad?

The shelf-life for CBD products is not well-known. CBD oils, tinctures, and other products, at this time, are not yet subjected to any required testing or regulation framework. Again, CBD oil tincture is not yet FDA approved.

Do CBD Drops Interact With Other Medications?

Yes, CBD drops and products may interact with other medications. CBD oils may decrease or increase the effect of how other medications interact and metabolize within your system.

We highly recommend consulting with your physician prior to starting a cannabidiol regime, as drug interactions and adverse side effects may be a possibility.
