CBD & Amazon (Should You Buy CBD Oil on Amazon?)

CBD & AMAZON (SHOULD YOU BUY CBD OIL ON AMAZON?)

CBD is more mainstream than ever before. Now that the hemp plant is federally legal throughout the USA, people have become increasingly interested in trying CBD products. So you head to the trusty internet, search for CBD oil, and millions and millions of results pop up. You don’t want to click through each one, so you head to your go-to site for everything: Amazon. You can buy practically anything on Amazon, but buy CBD oil on Amazon? Another story.

DRUGS AND AMAZON

So what is Amazon’s policy on ‘drugs’ or ‘drug paraphernalia’? If CBD oil on Amazon is “here one day, gone the next” type of phenomenon, is it considered a drug? Even though cannabidiol (CBD) is federally legal in the US, if hemp-derived, is it still regulated? CBD oil on Amazon is tricky, hemp oil on Amazon not so much.

WHAT IS AMAZON’S POLICY ON CBD PRODUCTS?

Buying CBD oil on Amazon has been banned from the website, since it is still a regulated substance. Amazon specifically states on their website:

“Products containing CBD, a schedule I controlled substance, including but not limited to: Rich Hemp Oil containing CBD, full-spectrum hemp oil containing CBD, or products that have been identified as containing CBD by LegitScript” can’t be sold on their site.

So why is it that you can search ‘CBD oil’ on Amazon and tons of results pop up?

WHAT IS AMAZON’S POLICY ON HEMP PRODUCTS?

Again, CBD Drops and other CBD products are banned from being sold on Amazon, but hemp products aren’t, generally. As a result of this, it’s totally possible that products listed as “extracted hemp” or “hemp seed oil” can be sold without much discrepancy.

It’s easy to get misled here, as there is a big difference between CBD oils and Hemp seed oils. CBD oil is produced from the leaves and flowers of the hemp plant itself. However, hemp seed oil is produced from the hemp seeds, which contains little to no CBD at all.

Since CBD is not yet FDA approved, sellers can market and label their products as “CBD”, when in all actuality, their product may not even contain any CBD!

You’ll probably notice that hemp oil isn’t as expensive as CBD oil. If you’re curious, check out the CBD oils on your next organic grocery market trip.

HOW DOES AMAZON GUARANTEE THE QUALITY OF CBD PRODUCTS?

Amazon doesn’t guarantee the quality of CBD products. Since sellers can’t necessarily sell CBD oils, they can label it as hemp oil, hemp seed oil, or hemp extract. Which, in turn, means that the descriptions of products may be inaccurate. Thus, buying CBD from Amazon is a major gamble.

When you do browse for CBD oils on Amazon, you’ll most likely see that hemp oil products are listed for a very high price. You may be spending more money than you should, on a product that may not even have what you’re looking for in it.

WHY DON’T MORE COMPANIES SELL CBD PRODUCTS ON AMAZON?

Many companies are transparent with their customers. If you’re willing to take on the complicated Amazon Terms of Service descriptions and regulations, then take a swing! You’ll quickly see that Amazon doesn’t technically allow for CBD to be sold on their website. Sticky business if you ask me!

If companies do try and sell their products on Amazon, they will typically use very vague language and may be kicked off at any time if their identity is identified.

PROS

  1. Companies can’t distinguish themselves without running into violating Amazon’s rules.
  2. Scammers may try and sell their products on Amazon, claiming their “hemp seed oil” is real.
  3. As marijuana and hemp regulations are different around the US and the world, Amazon has to ensure it’s following all the legalities to the T.

CONS

  1. Since so many people use Amazon daily, people may feel more comfortable purchasing a new product from this reputable company.
  2. Companies aren’t able to expand their business and services to platforms like Amazon due to regulations and rules.

SHOULD I BUY CBD ON AMAZON?

We highly recommend not buying CBD on Amazon. Like we mentioned above, it’s a gamble to shop for CBD on the Amazon platform. Even if you find hemp seed oil or hemp extract oil, you most likely won’t know what ingredients are in the products.

Doing your homework and navigating the open seas of web pages is well-worth your time and well-being when it comes to selecting a) a reputable company and b) quality CBD products.

HOW DO I SHOP FOR QUALITY CBD?

4 EASY STEPS TO FOLLOW

1. HEAD TO THE INTERNET OR ASK AROUND

By searching ‘CBD oil’ on the internet, it may be overwhelming, but doable! You can also search ‘CBD oil third-party lab testing’ or ‘CBD oil with certificates of analysis’. These keywords may help narrow your search down.

Also, talking to friends, checking out social media advertisements, and checking out dispensaries are a great way to get a personalized opinion before you purchase something on the internet.

2. ASK ABOUT THEIR CANNABIS

Does the company organically grow and farm their cannabis plants? Are their farms located in the US? Do they use pesticides or chemicals in the growing process? What type of processes do they use for extraction?

These questions do make a difference, I mean, you want a quality CBD product that is organic, non-GMO, and farmed with state-of-the-art processing, right? Right.

3. ASK FOR CERTIFICATES OF ANALYSIS

This is a major and necessary step to separate your “CBD companies” from reputable CBD companies.  By asking companies for their certificates of analysis for their CBD products helps you figure out A) if the company can easily provide these for you because they have a logistical backing and B) what’s in their products.

This will help you see what is exactly in the products you’re interested in as well as what amount and concentration of each ingredient is present.

4. ASK IF THEY DO IN HOUSE AND THIRD-PARTY LAB TESTING

Here’s another solid question to ask! Third-party laboratory testing helps ensure the quality of the company’s CBD products. Most companies do in-house laboratory testing to assess the quality of their products, which is great! However, by doing third-party lab testing, this provides the company with an outside confirmation of the quality of their products.

WHAT QUESTIONS SHOULD I ASK MYSELF WHEN SHOPPING FOR QUALITY CBD?

Like we mentioned above, asking the right questions to these CBD companies makes all the difference! But before starting your CBD navigation journey, ask yourself these questions:

  • What type of CBD do I want? Oil? Topical? Powder?
  • What degree of potency do I want for my CBD product? 1000 mg of CBD? 200 mg?
  • What do I want to take CBD for? Anxiety? General well-being? Headaches?
  • What am I willing to pay for a quality CBD product? $80? $200?

These are just some of the questions we’ve generated based on what we take into account when deciding on purchasing CBD products. You may have other important questions to answer for yourself before you start looking.
